Attending Obama address is teaching point for Durham educator

For a former history teacher, attending a presidential State of the Union address is the opportunity of a lifetime.

That opportunity comes next Tuesday for Jason Jowers, an assistant principal at Hillside High School in Durham. First District Congressman G.K. Butterfield invited him to be his guest in the gallery for President Barack Obama’s speech on Capitol Hill.

Jowers said Friday that he was stunned when Butterfield’s office extended the invitation a few weeks ago. “How does he know who I am, and why did he choose me out of everybody?” he said.

Canon PowerShot G1X Announced

Another new camera announced today comes from Canon the Powershot G1X. This camera too comes with a larger CMOS sensor however unlike many other cameras with larger sensors is an all in one camera with no interchangeable lenses.

Canon are billing it as an alliterative to a DSLR (or a 2nd camera for those with a DSLR who want something smaller) in that it has a higher quality image but in a portable body but I have to wonder whether the recent array of smaller interchangeable lenses are going to make people overlook this option its definitely a statement that theyre not looking to head down that route with their larger sensor compact cameras.

The beauty of not having to include lens mounts means that theyre able to keep the size down, quality up and still have a pretty good focal range.

The Canon Powershot G1X comes with a 4x zoom (a 28-112mm equivalent) lens (f2.8-f.8) and a 14 megapixel sensor.
