Local farmers share and collect information
MARQUETTE — Local farmers recently gathered at the Presque Isle pavilion for a picnic.
The Hiawathaland Farmer’s Bureau held an informational picnic with several other agricultural organizations.
The event served as a way for farmers to talk to professionals on ways they can improve their farms and how to pay for those improvements.
“What it does is it gives them an opportunity to go one-on-one with those technical people, so they really understand if a program or an assistance will help them in any way to improve their farm,” said Farm Bureau President, Dan Bahrman.
The bureau also used the picnic to recognize former State Senator Mike Prusi for his attention to farm-related issues.
Despite a late start to the season and cold temperatures in June, farmers at the picnic said their yields are only sightly behind for this time of the season.
