McClellan Avenue sidewalks planned
MARQUETTE — The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) says walking or biking to school will get easier for some school children in Marquette.
It’s one of the benefits they’re anticipating from an addition to the path on the west side of McClellan Avenue. The segment will be along Grove Street and Vistanna Drive.
It’s a $200,000 project, primarily funded by a federal enhancement grant. MDOT and the City of Marquette are also chipping in a portion of the costs.
They say the project will benefit many in the area.
“This will give a good option for bicyclists or pedestrians to be able to cross at 553 or McCellan Avenue by traveling along 553 on the bike path near the pedestrian overpass and they can cross,” said Andy Sikkema of MDOT.
Members of the public voiced their concerns about M-553 being completed before other areas. MDOT says it just takes time to complete all areas.
