Cranston West defeats Hendricken in baseball
CRANSTON – Mike Hayden pitched a complete game and Matt Pagano and Jeff Diehl delivered clutch hits Friday afternoon as the trio led Cranston West to a 5-3 victory over defending state champion Hendricken in the first baseball meeting of the season between the two teams who, combined, have won the past eight Division I state championships.
Pagano broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning and Diehl gave the Falcons a little cushion with a lead-off homer over the centerfield fence in the bottom of the fifth.
Hayden, meanwhile, limited the Hawks to seven hits over the seven-inning route only allowing the Hawks to score in one inning.
