Former Hendricken standout Costantino throws NECBL no-hitter
Lincoln resident and former Bishop Hendricken All-Stater Chris Costantino threw a no-hitter for the Laconia Muskrats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League on Sunday at Robbie Mills Park in Laconia, N.H.
Costantino’s no-hitter was the fifth in NECBL history and the first since July, 2007.
Costantino needed 107 pitches to shutout the Keene Swamp Bats, 7-0. The game took only two hours and 17 minutes. He walked two and struck out nine. It was his third nine strikeout performance of the season. He is tied for the league lead in strikeouts with 41 in 36 innings pitched.
Costantino is 2-3 on the season with an ERA of 2.75. He’s been dominant of late, allowing only five hits in his last 22 innings of work.
“Every time I pitch, I try to use three pitches, stay down in the zone and hit spots,”he said after the game. “Just go through the lineup and make sure each hitter gets a different look every time they’re up there. Everything was working tonight.
Costantino was a 49th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2009 but never signed. He attended Walters State Community College in Tennessee, one of the nation’s top junior college programs. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 43rd round of this year’s draft.
