Reaching across the state: WSU offers engineering degree in Bremerton

ME 303 Fluid Mechanics is a cooperative course taught via telecom-
munications to WSU, University of Idaho and Olympic College, Bremer-
ton, students. Konstantin Matveev, of the WSU School of Mechanical
and Materials Engineering, is shown teaching the class in the Electri-

Analysis: Colorado’s lost points in Race to the Top

Colorado’s failed bid for $175 million in federal Race to the Top funding was hampered by concern about the state’s flat achievement data and fear that union opposition would prevent the spread of reform.

Evaluators also docked points for what they describe as the state’s vague plans to ensure effective teachers and principals are in the neediest schools.

Ed. Dept Compiles Special Education Training Resources

I love a good bargain, and my favorite price is “free.” So as the school year starts around the country, I’m happy to point parents and teachers in the direction of some no-cost online professional development compiled by the Department of Education through its LearningPort website.

The Education Department has linked to reports and webinars created by school districts, professional groups and other organizations on various special education topics. Interested in response to intervention? You can find links to online training modules created by the Nebraska Department of Education’s RTI consortium, a website on behavioral interventions from the Utah Department of Education, or RTI blueprints for implementation from the National Association of State Directors of Special Education.
