Penn Researchers Break Light-Matter Coupling Strength Limit in Nanoscale Semiconductors

PHILADELPHIA—New engineering research at the University of Pennsylvania demonstrates that polaritons have increased coupling strength when confined to nanoscale semiconductors. This represents a promising advance in the field of photonics: smaller and faster circuits that use light rather than electricity.

The research was conducted by assistant professor Ritesh Agarwal, postdoctoral fellow Lambert van Vugt and graduate student Brian Piccione of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. Cha

Children learn about business in summer program

The Kid Bizness program is designed to teach kids, ages 8 to 18, about business through real, hands-on training.

The young entrepreneurs create their own products and sell them in the museum store, Sprout.  They come up with their first prototypes, figure out their profit margins, and then run them by the Dragon Committee who will decide which products will go on the shelves.

“This group here this morning have already walked in with the idea of duct-taped formal wear for ties and hats.  They have ideas for jewelry, for clay creations,” said Jim Edwards of the U.P. Chi
