Middle States Commission Reaccredits Hamilton

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education has voted to “reaffirm accreditation” of Hamilton College and to “commend the institution for the quality of the self-study report.”

No follow-up is required by the college until its next Periodic Review Report is due on June 1, 2016. In its report to Hamilton, the evaluation team wrote:

“We found a College that is clear about and unified around its mission. We commend Hamilton for the strong and supportive learning environment that it provides for its students. Given the high level of student satisfaction with their educational experience, it is perhaps not surprising that Hamilton has a strong record of alumni support. The Visit

Eric Rabe to Join Penn’s Fels Institute of Government Research & Consulting as Senior Advisor

PHILADELPHIA –- Eric Rabe has been appointed a senior advisor to Fels Research & Consulting, the consulting practice for public-sector and non-profit organizations at the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania.

Panel urges higher charter standards

A committee that’s been studying standards for charter school governance and for how districts authorize charters has finished its work with recommendations that the state adopt existing national standards on authorization and that charter boards be required to follow existing laws and rules on financial and ethical conduct.

What’s called the House Bill 10-1412 Advisory Committee held its last meeting Wednesday, and its draft report is being edited for submission to the State Board of Education by Aug. 1.<

Helping 1 billion bovines: Team hunts genetic markers to combat disease

PULLMAN, Wash. – You and I have our challenges and some real worries, too. There are bills to pay and doctors to visit, to say nothing of mulling over those strange sounds coming from the rear of the car.   But I confess I thought the life of a cow was rather placid. Eating and sleeping, I would have guessed, pretty much summed up the existence of the more than 1 billion bovines that share the planet with us.   But as Ive recently learned, both beef cattle and dairy cows often have trouble just catching their breath.
