The Technology MnDOT Uses To Keep Roadways Safe

The Minnesota Department of Transportation manages 800 snowplows and 150 truck stations across the state. While thats a lot of equipment to keep track of, MnDOT has a strategy for combating 11,000 miles of highways.

They are called road and weather information stations – and you have probably driven by them.

The roadside stations MnDOT pavement temperature, wind speeds and even take real-time pictures of the road.

“Were very scientific about our approach to removing snow and ice, said Kevin Gutknecht of MnDOT.

BYU’s Davies good at leading the “charge”; plus Carlino’s thoughts on UCLA scandal

The part of a basketball floor that arguably is the most polarizing among any panel of college basketball coaches, also happens to be a good consideration of why Brandon Davies is quite successful.

The BYU junior center has taken full advantage of the “restricted arc,” the semi-circle painted under each hoop that is used to help referees call blocking fouls or charges. If a defensive player has a foot inside the “U”-shaped area when contact is made by a player making a move toward the hoop, it should be a block.

But Davies, especially in 16 games of West Coast Conference play, remained effective at getting calls to go his way at the defensive end of the floor.

Four new coaches highlight Pac-12 spring

< ![endif]--> Oregon coach Chip Kelly in a phone interview before the Rose Bowl was baffled. How the heck could little-old-him be important to a reporter?

“The big story,” he said conspiratorially,”is all these new coaches.”
