Local students attend Oklahoma Girls State on OU campus
Thirteen local high school juniors will be attending American Legion Auxiliary Oklahoma Girls State May 29-June 4 on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman.
American Legion Auxiliary Howard-Maxey Unit 72 in Ada is sponsoring 12 girls and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 is sponsoring one girl.
Those attending are Caitlin Cowart, Hana Stenson, Claire Pottebaum, Allison Stafford and Allison Keel, all of Ada High School; Mahgan Boissenin and Ellizabeth Perry, both of Byng High School; Keeli Kessinger and Emily Butcher, both of Latta High School; Taylor McCoy and Magan Kile, both of Roff High School; Gage Parker, Vanoss High School; and Kirstie Schur of Konawa High School.
Co-sponsors are Citizens Bank of Ada, Vision Bank of Ada, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge 119, Pontotoc County Home and Community Education, Vanoss Home and Community Education, Technisand of Roff, Diamond K, Kiwanis Club of Ada, Rotary International, Sunrise Rotary and American Legion Auxiliary.
Only unmarried junior girls in senior high school who are citizens of the United States are eligible to attend Oklahoma Girls State.
According to information provided by Ameircan Legion Auxiliary Oklahoma Girls State, delegates for Oklahoma Girls State must be selected for their high moral character, leadership, cooperativeness, physical fitness and interest in government.
Selections must be made by the Girls State Chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit from a list of qualified girls submitted by the high schools.
